Movement Exploration with Contact Improvisation
October 14, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“Solo dancing does not exist: the dancer dances with the floor: add another dancer and you have a quartet: each dance with the other and each with the floor.”
– Steve Paxton, origintator of Contact Improvisation.

We invite you to an exploration of shared movement, touch and expression. Absolutely no previous dance experience is required, just curiosity, a mind and a body. By exploring gravity, momentum and inertia, we can experience deep listening, awareness, and truthfulness.
The workshop is facilitated by Georgia Shine, who brings ingredients from a number of different artistic and movement based practices to the work. Her facilitation incorporates her experience with the Alexander Technique, musical performance and teaching, 5 Rhythms, Open Floor and Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Her sensitive and playful teaching style creates a safe space for full exploration into the movement practice.
We will begin with self-connection through guided movement, and gently flow into connection with others through various exercises. As we learn about ourselves through contact improvisation, there will be opportunities to share and discuss with others, and the workshop will conclude with a free-form ‘jam’.
If you are interested, please note the limited spaces available and book soon! See you on the dance floor.
“O body swayed to music, O brightening glance, How can we know the dancer from the dance? ”
~ William Butler Yeats ~
